Andes Mint Cinnamon Rolls

I know St. Patty's Day has been here and gone already.
I am still trying to change gears and remember that it is easter in less than 2 weeks.
Easter in March kind of throws me. :)

So thinking of something green and food this month.
Two of my honey's favorite things came to mind,
Andes Mints and my cinnamon rolls.
I thought hmm, why not.

So here is the recipe:

Dough
     1/4 cup             warm water
     1 Tbs                active dry yeast
     1 cup                warm milk
     1/2 cup             canola oil
     1/2 cup             sugar
     1 tsp                 salt
     5-5 1/2 cups     all-purpose flour
     2                       eggs

Filling
      6 Tbs              softened butter
      1/2 cup           granulated sugar
      1/2 cup           brown sugar
      2 tsp               ground cinnamon

1. put water and yeast into a small bowl and let sit for 5 minutes.
2. heat the milk (in microwave)
3. add milk, oil, sugar, salt in bowl. mix in 1 cup flour. add eggs and beat well.
4. stir in water/yeast mix. now add 1 cup at a time 4 more cups of flour. until dough is soft.
5. turn dough out onto floured surface and knead well.
6. lightly grease bowl and place dough in bowl, turning once. cover bowl, place in warm place for
      1 - 1   1/2 hours until dough is doubled.
7. punch down dough. roll our the dough on floured surface into a 20x14" rectangle (roughly).
spread butter over entire surface. Mix brown, granulated sugar and cinnamon in small bowl and
sprinkle over dough. add nuts if you desire. roll dough into log.
8. cut 18-20 rolls. place on greased cookie sheet.
9. cover sheet with a dish bowl and let rise double again. about 30 minutes. preheat oven to 400. When
rolls are done rising. bake for 10-15 minutes.
10. Once you take the rolls out of the oven. sprinkle with melted andes mints (with a spoon)

Eat and enjoy.                     Recipe incorporated from the food nanny.

Happy Baking!

Peep Basket Door Hanger

Easter is right around the corner and as sad as I was to take down my
gorgeous shamrock wreath. I created another colorful one to take it's place.
What Easter is complete without peeps. I personally love the bunnies
better then the ducks. They are just too cute for words.

To make this peep basket you will need: a couple colors of bunny peeps,
1 rectangle of green floral styrofoam, colored easter grass, plastic eggs,
skewers (bamboo sticks), basket and variety of colorful ribbon.

Cut your floral styrofoam in half and place into basket.

Stuff your grass into the basket next. You will notice my grass isn't shiny,
I have the crinkled paper kind.

Take you peep and poke a skewer into the bottom of it.

Now poke through grass into foam and arrange like you would flowers.
Make sure you put them in different angles and heights.
Once you are happy with your arrangement, place (or glue) a couple
plastic easter eggs around base. Finish off by wrapping ribbon around
basket and tying off with a fun bow. hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

Price breakdown:
1 package each of pink, yellow & purple peeps Walmart: $3.24
basket (clearance area) Hobby Lobby: $2.99
Plastic Eggs Dollar Tree:  $1.06
Wooden Skewers & Ribbon (already had): $0.00
Total:  $7.29

Happy Easter!!

Purse Upcycle Part 1

My favorite purse is finally falling apart enough that I have to get a new one.
I was having a hard time just tossing out my beloved purse.
So I have decided to take this opportunity to upcycle it into other things.
My first project is turning the handles into flowers for my hair.

So I cut off the handles , removed the buttons (which were from a prior project where I fixed the handles months ago). Then cut the ends off.

Use tweezers or your fingers, grab the core and pull it clean out.

Cut notches into the handle roughly 1/2" apart.

To sew the flower. bend over one of the ends and start stitching it from seam to seam.
continue to turn and stitch until you get to the other end.

The finished flower. I think it is fantastic.

Happy sewing!
