I wanted to make something to add a bit of color and holiday cheer on my big white wall behind my desk at work. So being limited to few items to be crafty with. All you need for this project is colored post it notes, a pen and scissors. I used 3x3 post it's and 1x1 post it's.

To make these I turned them over, sticky side up and drew a heart on the back. then taking my scissors I of course cut them out. Make sure you have the top of the heart within the sticky line at the top. I would do about 5-6 post it's at a time. If you don't want to redraw a new heart on the back of the next pile. Just take your original cut stack and trace the heart on the new stack.

Then have fun. Place them sporadically on the wall. I have some fantastic cork boards on my wall and so I just placed them around my cork boards.

These would also look great with candy heart saying written on the front of them.
this project should only cost you a couple bucks at the most unless you already have post it's on hand.

Sorry about the photos. I only had a phone to take them this morning.
Have fun.

14 Days of Love - Day 2... Red, White & Black Chess Decor

My little helper Cupid has been scouring the globe for fantastic lovey dove posts to share with you.

Today Cupid asked me to share a post on "Red, White & Black Chess Decor"
perfect for a valentine's party or to decorate your mantle for the month of February

This is my first ever craft project that I used wash tape on. I have been dying to make these and so I set some time aside yesterday and tackled this project. These are the perfect table or food area display for a valentine's party. Also the color theme usually is black, red and white.

Supplies needed for this project:
  • wood chess pieces (I purchased mine from oh my crafts)
  • washi tape
  • paint
  • paint brush
  • masking tape
  • exacto knife or scissors (much easier with exacto knife)

I started off by painted the edges black. (see pictures below)
Because I was sloppy I also got black on the front and back of the piece and ended up having to also paint the front and back black. If you are careful during this step you can eliminate the masking tape all together.

This photo shows you why I had to use masking tape. Because the block is black the wash tape isn't as clear and crisp like it should be. the below photo shows how the top part of the piece does not have masking tape underneath and the bottom part does.

With this particular chevron washi tape there are 2 different looks you can get from this just by the way you place the next piece. the top part shows what it would look like if you continued the chevron pattern all the way up. the bottom shows how by moving the design over a little you will end up with a row of diamonds in between the chevron rows. I choose the diamond look.

This next photo shows the steps I took to cover the front and back of the pieces .
Step 1: (Top Right) Cover entire piece with rows of masking tape.
Step 2: (Left) Apply rows of washi tape making sure you match up the dots, stripes, etc.
Step 3: (Bottom Right) using your exacto knife, hold the overlapping tape with your left hand                     and slowly a sharp blade and a up and down motion, cut around the edges of the piece.

When I applied the striped washi tape. I decided to do it from top to bottom instead of side to side.
I started applying the tape to the middle first and the moved outward. When laying down the stripes I overlapped the last red stripe onto the first red stripe of the previous row.

These turned out so good, you can always add ribbon around the middle, darken the edges,  or even bling it up more.

Happy Love Month

14 Days of Love - Day 1

My little helper Cupid has been scouring the globe for fantastic lovey dove posts to share with you.

Today Cupid asked me to share a post on "How to make a couple's sign"

Couple's Sign

Today I decided to make a "Couple's Sign". I have been wanting to do this for a while and with valentines coming up very soon, I thought this would be the perfect time to finally make it.  So what you do is you print out the state that your born in, the state your spouse was born in and the state you were married in. (now if these aren't 3 separate states no worries, you will just add the info and heart in 2 or possible 3 places on the state.) To find great state outlines to print. I went to google.com and then in the search area typed in state outline and then checked out the images it popped up with. I printed mine onto a brown card stock.

Once they are printed and the size you want them, cut them out, I left a little bit of an edge around the black outline.

I then applied glue all over the back of each state and then turned it over and applied it to some black chipboard. I placed a heavy book on top for a minute so that they stayed flat and secure.

Once it is dry. Cut around the state again.
To attach each state to my top sign I punched holes in each state and the sign and attached each one with wire.

I know you can't read what I put on each of the states. So here is a breakdown. On each of the states that me and my husband were born I placed a heart over the place the city is located. Next to the heart I wrote..
 Line 1. my name
 Line 2. the word born
Line 3. City and States name
 Line 4. Birthday 00/00/00

Now the state we were married in i have attached to our 2 birth states and again placed the heart where the city is located. On this one I wrote.

Line 1. his name & my name
Line 2. the word Married
Line 3. City and States name
Line 4. Date Married 00/00/00

This was so much fun to make.
