Couple's Sign

Today I decided to make a "Couple's Sign". I have been wanting to do this for a while and with valentines coming up very soon, I thought this would be the perfect time to finally make it.  So what you do is you print out the state that your born in, the state your spouse was born in and the state you were married in. (now if these aren't 3 separate states no worries, you will just add the info and heart in 2 or possible 3 places on the state.) To find great state outlines to print. I went to google.com and then in the search area typed in state outline and then checked out the images it popped up with. I printed mine onto a brown card stock.

Once they are printed and the size you want them, cut them out, I left a little bit of an edge around the black outline.

I then applied glue all over the back of each state and then turned it over and applied it to some black chipboard. I placed a heavy book on top for a minute so that they stayed flat and secure.

Once it is dry. Cut around the state again.
To attach each state to my top sign I punched holes in each state and the sign and attached each one with wire.
Here is how it looks finished.

I know you can't read what I put on each of the states. So here is a breakdown. On each of the states that me and my husband were born I placed a heart over the place the city is located. Next to the heart I wrote..
 Line 1. my name
 Line 2. the word born
Line 3. City and States name
 Line 4. Birthday 00/00/00

Now the state we were married in i have attached to our 2 birth states and again placed the heart where the city is located. On this one I wrote.

Line 1. his name & my name
Line 2. the word Married
Line 3. City and States name
Line 4. Date Married 00/00/00

This was so much fun to make.

Family Year Box ~ Great way to keep track of memories during the year!

Family Year Box

Are you looking for a new tradition that will bring family unity and bonding...or if that is too mushy for you~ a new tradition that helps your family realize they have it pretty good and you DID do something with them throughout the year. Well, me too. So, I decided to start a Family Year Box. A Family Year Box is for you to collect memories throughout the year so that you can open in on New Years Eve and enjoy reminiscing about what happened that year. You can also put things in your box that clutter up your drawers that you keep saying you are going to put in a scrapbook.

Here are some suggestions of what to put in your box:

Notes about funny things family members said
Notes about special events or accomplishments
Notes about family outings or activities
Wedding announcements
Graduation announcements
Certificates
Program papers for a baptism, funeral or special event
Photographs.......Yes you will have to print them off & not let them live eternally on your computer
Christmas cards...especially the ones with pictures.
Little trinkets you find
Holiday cards or letters
Birthday interviews
Information for that year: Gas price, president, information of the time.
Newspaper article
Movie ticket stubs
Drawings or school projects
List of what everyone got for Christmas
Even include the bad of the year!
I made mine out of a shoe box and covered it with wrapping paper, slit a hole on the top and labeled it Lainhart Family 2013 Year Box. Other options are using a photo box...which I may do next year. I made slips of paper to keep next to my box......each family member having their own color and one color for the entire family. This way I can jot down any funny sayings, activities, celebrations or things worth noting and it is right there accessible to put in the box.

I am excited to start mine this year and possibly look at it in 5, 10, 25 years from now with my kids or grandkids. I am not super good at making scrapbooks...so this is my lazy way of keeping track of what goes on in the year.

Organizing and making your Linen Closet Pretty

How many of you have the wire racks in your linen closet. Even though they are easily installed and can hold quite a bit, things like to fall between the cracks. So I decided to fix that problem.

You will need cardboard, 12x12 scrapbooking paper (any design you wish), white paper (I used card stock), adhesive ( I used my pink scotch advanced tape glider), scissors, ruler, pen, marker and alligator clips.

So start off with some card board. I used mailers that I had sitting around. ( this is a good way to reuse mailers that you receive in the mail.

I picked a cool black and white designed paper (by doodlebugs) and got out my handy dandy tape glider. If you don't have one of these you need to get one, they are fantastic.

Each of my cardboard sheets measured 20 1/2" x 11" approx. So I needed (2) 12x12 sheets of scrapbook paper per sheet of cardboard. Now I marked on the back of my scrapbook paper a 1/2" line (this is where you are going to fold it over the edges on the side. Do this on both sheets of paper. (put the line on the R side of the paper that is going on the L side and the opposite way for the R side. I ran my tape glide parallel to that line and also added a strip down the opposite side of the paper and 2 down the middle. (R photo shows the tape areas)

Once the Adhesive is on the scrapbook paper. Grab your card board sheet and line it up to the 1/2" mark (remember this is one of the sides NOT the front. Just so you know the reason I cut my cardboard sheet to 11" High was so I could wrap the paper over the front area.

Your card board sheet should look like this now. with 3 edges have an overhang.
To fold. Do the sides first. Run adhesive down both sides on the white area
and then fold over the edge of the cardboard.

Now do the same thing to the front piece.

Photo of the scrapbook paper folding over the edge
Perfect corners!!!

Here is what the piece should look like once you are done.
Now we need some labels so things will be all sorts of crazy organized.

You will need another piece of the same 12x12 scrapbook paper, l
eft over bits of cardboard and a piece of white paper.
Here are the dimensions for each piece you need to cut out
(you will need 1 of each 3 pieces for each label):
Patterned Scrapbook Paper: 4"x 5"
Cardboard: 4"x 2 1/2"
White Paper: 3 1/2" x 2
Extra white piece (you will only need 1 of these): 3' x 1 1/2"
Take your scrapbook paper and the card stock and place the card stock in the middle of the backside of the paper. Make these lines. Now put glue on back of card stock and place in the rectangle.
Just like the larger pieces do the sides first.
Now do the top and bottom. It does not matter if any of the cardboard is showing because you won't see it when you put it up.
Here is what the front looks like.
Take a marker and run it around the edges of your white sheet. This will make it pop a bit more.
OK this is where the small white sheet comes in that you only have to cut once. Place it in the middle of your white sheet and trace around with the same marker. This makes a border.

Now you can personalize these to fit your needs.
Take a couple Alligator clips and hang from the wire shelving under what that shelf is holding.
Here is a before shot. things just didn't want to stay where they should.
and here are a couple after shots. My closet looks so much better and anyone could find what they were looking for now.

Bacon wrapped Turkey

Bacon wrapped Turkey

We'll I decided to use a new technique for cooking my turkey this year for Christmas.
All I did was put stuffing in the inside and then wrapped it with bacon. Nothing else.
I criss crossed the bacon across the top of the bird 1st (making sure that I didn't cover the thermometer up. Then covered the legs. I had to use toothpicks in a couple places to keep the bacon in place. Then I placed in the oven for the amount of hours and temp for this size bird and 4 hours later and 2 stops to quickly bast. and there you go. (I did have tinfoil over it for the first 3 hours and then took it off for the last hour).

This was not ONLY the Juiciest turkey I have ever had but it had a great mild flavor to it also because of the bacon. I am definitely going to do this again come thanksgiving. Yumm

Happy Cooking !!
