Christmas Series Day 20 - Inexpensive Neighbor Gift

A great idea for an alternative to goodie plates!

My gift to You is a post on

 "Inexpensive Neighbor Gift"

    If you are wanting to give a little something to a friend, family member, co-worker, neighbor this year and don't want to give sweets or break the bank. This is a great idea for you.

   What it is, is a roll of wrapping paper and tape tied together with ribbon and a poem to go with it. 

How many times have you run out of wrapping paper or tape while trying to get all those presents ready for christmas day. I know I have and the last thing I would ever want to do is run out to get more.  That's why this is the perfect gift for many, even the diabetic. 

   Even though I have seen this idea floating around the web with a poem already. I wanted to embrace this idea and make it mine. So my wonderful husband wrote a poem for me that I think is even better and I wanted to share it with all of you.

   Below you will find a copy of the poem. You just have to right click on the photo, save it to your computer and then you can print it.  If you want to type it up and use it on a different design or just want to hand write it, all I ask is that you keep the author's name tied to the poem. Thank you.

This gift cost me $1.50 each

I went to the dollar store, searched for the rolls that had the most on them and then bought a 2 pack of tape. So it would be a $1.00 for the wrapping paper and when you break the tapes into 2 gifts they are only .50 each. Then all you need is a little ribbon to tie the tape and poem onto the roll.

   To tie the tape and poem on. Run your ribbon through the hole on the tape dispenser, then tie around the wrapping paper roll, punch a hole in one of the top corners of the poem and then string the poem onto one side of the ribbon. Now make a bow.  Then place a piece of tape over the ribbon (taping it onto the roll). Now your done!!

I am so proud of my hubby and hope you all like his poem too.

Christmas Series Day 18 - Mint Oreo & Ritz Cracker Cookies

 "Mint Oreo & Ritz Cracker Cookies"

Today I am going to teach you 2 different ways to make these easy mint cookies.

the first way  you need oreo's, melting chocolate and mint extract.

I have been dying to try out my new mold (seen below)

Melt the chocolate in the microwave (do this in 30 second increments so that

 you don't end up burning the chocolate). add a little bit of mint extract.

 Spoon the melted chocolate into the mold. fill about 2/3 of the mold. 

Now... take your cookie and press it into the mold. the bottom

 of the cookie won't have chocolate on it. 

Place in the refrigerator until firm.

Once they are firm they should pop out with no problems. 

 Now for the second way to make mint cookies...

Melt the chocolate again (same way as above) in a bowl or cup.

now add a little bit of mint extract. (not to much because a little goes a long way)

Once melted drop a ritz cracker into the chocolate and full cover. 

 I used my tongs to grab the cracker and tapped on the side of the cup

 to get rid of excess chocolate. Once you think you have enough of the extra

 chocolate off. place on a piece of waxed paper and let dry.

Don't these look yummy. and the green ones have those terrific winter

 designs on top from the molds. The mold I picked up from Michael's for $2.00

These would be a great addition for any goody plate.

Christmas Series Day 17 - Child's Wish List Ornament

A great idea for an Ornament you can add to each year!

So I am sharing it with all of you

Today I am personally posting :)

My gift to You is a post on

 "Child's Wish List Ornament" 

This is a perfect Ornament to make into a christmas tradition. Each year you or one of your children will each make out a christmas list and place in the ornament. When there 18 or moving out, let them take it with them so they can continue adding to it. You can later choose when you will open it to see all the many wonderful things you placed inside. Wouldn't you love to know what you wanted for christmas when you were 3 years old.

Start off with your choice of clear glass ornament. I choose a fun square shaped one.

You will also need gallery glass (color of your choice), piece of paper, a pen, 

a little bit of thread, ribbon, 1 button and a hook.

To make the christmas wish list to go inside the bottle.

Cut a piece of white paper 1 1/2" x 4 ".

Write at the top the year that you are currently on.

Then write what you or your child is really wanting that year.

Roll the list up and tie off with some colored thread.

Once done slip it into the ornament through the opening. 

To personalize these, take your gallery glass and write the child's name on the front.
Remember gallery glass will look lighter when applied and will darken up once dried.
*you can also apply vinyl or stickers if you don't want to write it on yourself

 Once dry, add ribbon, button's or other embellishments to it and add a hook to hang it.

Have fun, and be creative...

If you aren't familiar with Scrapbook Steals, it's a scrapbook site that offers twice a daily scrapbook steals (discounted product) for a great price. They have some of the coolest scrapbook supplies on their site. Check them out HERE

I buy items from this company all the time to make a lot of my fantastic projects.

I want to show you how to take 4 different rolls of ribbon (I'm using

American Crafts Everyday Ribbons) and make 2 different, make that 4 projects.

and to top it off not only are they useful but work for christmas time.

My 1st project - which is actually a 3 in 1.

 

Supplies

• Solid Black American Craft Ribbon
• Turquoise Chevron American Craft Ribbon
• String of 16 bells (found at the dollar store)
• hot glue gun & glue
• buttons
• scissors
• turquoise paint
• paintbrush

 

Here is how you make it:

• Cut both the black & turquoise ribbon into 8 even pieces (each)
• Tie a bow on each bell, alternating the colors
• add a button to the middle of each bows (I alternated white and turquoise buttons on this step)
• the bells on my string we're gold and silver so I then painted the gold ones turquoise
• now your done.

 

What you can now do with this:

• I added some more black ribbon to each end of the strand and tada you now have a unique jingly necklace. 
• The second way to use this is to hang it on your doorknob and now you have a door bell.
• Third, which is my favorite, is to hang it on the back of a chair and now you have festive chair decor.

 

My 2nd Project is: a Gift Tag

Now for the green and pink. your probably wondering how is she going to add pink into christmas. easy peesy. I made a festive gift tag. christmas doesn't always have to be green & red. The more colors the better.

 

 

Supplies:

• Green American Crafts Ribbon
• Pink American Crafts Ribbon
• Cardstock
• Scissors
• Embellisment
• Glue
• Gem
• decorative scissors
• hole punch

 

How to:

• cut a piece of cardstock 3" x 8" (you can change this)
• fold the cardstock in half
• cut 3 pieces of 3" pieces of ribbon & glue to front of card
• cut 1 piece of ribbon 6 1/8", wrap this around the front & glue on the backside
• cut a couple more small pieces of ribbon to add under the snowflake
• apply the snowflake to the small pieces & top off with gem
• cut the bottom of the top flap with decorate scissors
• punch a hole in one of the top corners for ribbon
• End by writing in the inside of the card To: & From:

 

.You now have a snazzy gift tag perfect

 for that gift you can't wait to give.
