After going to a handful of fat women's store (that's what I call them) aka. lane bryant, torrid, etc. I went home empty handed. not only did they have a small selection of dresses (or even a nice skirt) but they were all immodest, my meaning of modest is a dress that has sleeves, does not have a plunging neckline and is at least down to my knees if not longer. All the dress I found were sleeveless, strappy, holter toppish and were way to short. come on girls if you are overweight why would you want to show all that skin.
So i went home a bit grumpy thinking ok I guess my only option is to sew a dress myself. Pattern and material shopping is added to my to do list now.
This little quote fits my mood today perfectly
Give me chocolate and a nice dress PLEASSSSE!
Happy Shopping!!

Ok I am back from my Joann's shopping trip. I was able to get 5 simplicity patterns for $5.00. Great deal considering these are $15.00-$18.00 each normally.
I decided to go with Simplicity Pattern # 2917
Here is the material I will be using. My husband helped me pick this out.
What a great hubby. Love him.
I know exactly how you feel! I get so depressed shopping for me. I'm so impressed that you are making your own! That is awesome! I wish I could sew! Can't wait to see your finished dress, I bet it will look wonderful on you! :)

thanks Barbara. I will post photos of the dress when I finish it. I'll glad others feel the same way.
DeleteI understand exactly what you're going through. I'm a "big girl", too. I was 99 pounds when I met my husband. He didn't realize way back then that, after a few years, he'd have two for the price of one! I didn't count on that either. :( When I got sick, I lost about 50 pounds, but then my husband got sick and was hospitalized for 2 months and I gained 20 pounds back. OY!
ReplyDeleteI think that your dress is going to be just beautiful. It was sweet of your husband to help you choose the fabric. Simplicity patterns are great. Have fun making the dress!
Have a great weekend. :)
I feel your pain! But, just remember that you are your own worst critic! I know several "larger" ladies who are beautiful and when I see them I don't see a "fat" person. I too am a bit on the chunky side. It's very easy to get discouraged when shopping for something to flatter your figure. If you have time or one close to you JCPenny's and Carsons sometimes have cute things :) Have fun sewing!! Can't wait to see pics!
